I admit it took me over 6 months to decide if I wanted to see this traveling exhibition of 200 real human specimens, preserved human bodies and body parts including sliced organs. Even the knowledge that each deceased person had given informed consent - well, I just still wasn't sure. With its closing date set for September 4 (tomorrow), it was now or never. So Bill and I had a late Sunday brunch at La Peep and drove over to the museum. Long lines. Who knew the museum had kept the exhibit open 24 hrs 7 days a week for this last few weeks trying to accommodate the curious.

I admit it was interesting to see the knee replacement my mother had and the muscles/nerves up close that are currently the source of my nerve root pain (re Shingles). Most controversial and difficult for me was the pregnant woman who died in her 8th month - her body is sliced open to reveal the nearly full term fetus who died shortly after its mother. The smoker's lungs exhibit and the display of the pancreas revealed nothing new but it was …hmm…peculiar…to see these very real organs so up close. I’m all for medical science and people having a more informed knowledge of the human body and....overall, I’m glad I went. But for me, it's not a go-to-a-second-time kind of thing.

The exhibit is meant to be informative and to show the effects of poor lifestyle choices v healthy lifestyle choices and it did that. I also learned about Plastination which I had no knowledge of beforehand. So again, I am glad I went and I do feel a closer and more informed sense of my body…and yours for that matter!
