Registering Voters

Today was my first time to actually register voters as a deputized voter registrar. I've organized these things but always had some conflict on my own schedule to prevent me from being there myself. Interesting to watch people's reaction to the question, "Would you like to vote?" We were in the Federal Building downtown so foot traffic was heavy. My co-worker had an out front, happy, "of course you want to stop and register to vote!!" personality and stood by the front door. Some reacted as if she were trying to sell them something or rushed by staring at the ground, dismissively muttering "yeah, yeah." Some would mutter then slow their walk, turn around and come back. I sat/stood at our table a little further back, stayed quieter with the goal to capture the elevator traffic, mostly employees coming and going. I actually signed up more folks there in the back - hmmm. Signed up some new voters; several folks had moved and needed to change their address. A number of employees expressed their gratitude that we were there. Did you know that a person can register his spouse to vote? A child can register their parents? Do you know how many votes it takes to win the Governor's race in Texas?

Are you registered to vote?
