Highlights of last few days

• New Years Eve Sunday School class reviewed the movie
Millions. Inspiring movie with multiple
layers of values, ethics, religion, and spiritual
meaning. All critical reviewers loved this little
8-year-old actor, Alex Etel, and expect great things
from him. Movies starring child actors often rise or
fall on the performances of these children. This
one definitely rose with little Alex who was
onscreen 80% of the movie. Pops wrapped Seafarer
Boxes for the merchant center while I was in the
movie review.

• We went to a theatre movie in the afternoon,We
Are Marshall
. While it won’t win any Oscars, it
was a feel sad/feel good movie. I have two
girlfriends, one in Houston and one in Dallas, who
grew up in Huntingdon, were there and well remember
the day of the plane crash.

• New Years Day lunch with Matt, Anya, Luke, and Lisa.
Chili, deviled eggs, crackers/breads, homemade
chicken soup (for Luke), black-eyed peas, cookies
and fudge (milk chocolate and dark). You know, it
was good but it doesn’t sound so great written out
like that.

• I actually sat down in my comfy chair with Pops and
Lisa to watch the bowl games after the other kids
left (about 3:30) and opened my eyes next at 9:30
pm. Went to lie down on the bed for “just a moment”
and woke up at 6:30 am. Perhaps, just perhaps, I
might have been a bit tired? The holidays were a
bit much this year. Either that or (EGADS) perhaps
I can no longer keep up the pace of years past.

• Oldest stepdaughter’s 35th birthday. Glad to know
that young family is safely back home from their
holiday travels and recovered from a bout of food
poisoning.

• I was supposed to be testifying in Brazoria County
today but, thankfully, the hearing was postponed.
Rainy day with temps dropping.

* Canyon Cafe dinner this evening with good friend. We
always enjoy her company and getting caught up on
her life.

I’ve decided to skip the New Years Resolutions this year. Will just settle for good intentions, in spite of what they say. I’ll stick with my favorite guy, Thomas Merton, who said:

Be good, keep your feet dry, your eyes open,
your heart at peace and your soul in the joy of Christ.
