Our speaker for the Interbranch Luncheon today at Sugar Creek Country Club today was Barbara Best, Texas Executive Director of the Children’s Defense Fund and Chairperson of the Gulf Coast Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Once again we were reminded that Texas has the highest rate of uninsured children in the United States. To make the numbers real, we have 1.3 million uninsured children and most are eligible for low-cost or free health care coverage through Medicaid or CHIP but have not yet enrolled. She spoke about social inequities in healthcare focusing on the macro-policy environment. Ours is one of the groups helping to enroll these children.

Lisa. This lovely woman has been a good friend to my husband for years now. I had the privilege of really getting to know her after he and I were married. She works long and hard as a church administrator and knows all the skinny…but I digress. We made it to her birthday party right on time, dressed in pink as she requested, and ducking raindrops from car to door. Their newly renovated home seemed made for entertaining the large crowd there this evening. Does anyone know where this pink flamingo craze came from?
