Our transatlantic sail from Europe docked in Ft. Lauderdale about 10 days ago. It has always been my hope to travel abroad so I expected this to be a trip of a lifetime (sorry for the cliché) but the experience far exceeded that hope. We brought back a few very special souvenirs (including promised gift for grandson who birthday’d while we were gone) and took hundreds of photos which are currently spread across our dining room table. We had saved up enough credit card miles over the last year to upgrade flights to first class and Bill arranged a limo for transportation to and from our home airport. We enjoyed a couple of days in Paris and also in Venice before boarding the new 19-story Emerald Princess for our Mediterranean cruise which began there in Italy. I could write a tome on this trip so I’ll try very hard to just hit the most amazing of the amazing. The itinerary looked like this:

Venice (included island tours of Burano and Murano)
Day at Sea
Naples/Capri (Pompeii, Sorrento, Positano, the Amalfi coast)
Civitavecchia (train into Rome)
Cannes, France (Monte Carlo and Monaco)
Barcelona, Spain
Day at Sea
Cadiz, Spain (into Seville)
Lisbon, Portugal (first day in North Atlantic Ocean)
Day at Sea (depth of water at this point: 12,870 ft)
Ponta Delgada, Portugal (Azores Islands)
5 Days at Sea crossing the Atlantic (new ship on her maiden transatlantic voyage)
Dock in USA / Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

The ship days at sea were luxurious; our weather was absolutely perfect for the entire vacation excluding a short afternoon shower in Rome. Too overwhelming to try to describe it all so I plan to write about our experience in each port slowly as I put our scrapbook together. From time to time as I complete a section I will post it here. Whether or not you’ve been to any of these areas, I would enjoy your thoughts as we go.

Meanwhile, we arrived home in time for Bill to fly back out to Dallas for a legislative meeting (state bar assoc.) This weekend he was in Austin for another similar project and I tended to organizational duties in Dallas. We were home long enough last week to check on Mother and for me to testify in another divorce case and while I’m getting more and more comfortable on the witness stand, this case was no pleasant experience for sure.

Today we are both off to our regular work and life schedules.
