2008-04-10 9:30 PM Lost Week of convention and dancing Read/Post Comments (0) |
Back a couple of weeks ago, we went to see the performance of Spelling Bee at Hobby Center. Great fun, especially watching the guys from the audience, including one former City Councilmember, brought up on stage to be in the bee.
The next morning we were up early headed to the senatorial district convention for our precinct. Chaos and long long lines. Hundreds lining the stadium parking lot. We left after electing our reps to the State Convention ….10 hours later and with resolutions still waiting to be reviewed back inside. Everyone on both sides well behaved until the Obama folks began shouting and screaming at Sheila Jackson Lee. Many local, state and congressional politicians made their expected appearances and were greeted warmly until Jackson-Lee walked in. She was greeted with a sea of ugly jeers and boos because she was ‘supposed’ to back Obama. It was a little scary - the vehemence was palpable. Actually had to send security guards out to walk with her and stay with her across the parking lot. What does that say? Check this editorial. A chance of sanity We had to leave when we did because we had to find a phone booth to spin around in and appear at the UH Law School Gala, dressed in evening wear/tux and all just two hours later. Had a wonderful evening there with great friends; sat at one of the three tables filled with attorneys & families from Bill’s firm. We bid and won a dinner for six with City Councilmember Peter Brown but got outbid on the signed and framed Eagles poster I wanted. Really fun band who sang and performed, instruments and all, down on the dance floor with us. At one point Bill ended up with the lead singer on stage dancing to Proud Mary, shaking his booty (no alcohol involved). Gave (tired) blood at church the next morning before meeting Meg et.al. for lunch. Don’t know exactly why I write notes for my journal then don’t post them. So, alas, this one is late and past its prime. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
