2009-07-03 11:22 PM vacation day 8 |
Perfect weather holding out here in the Ozarks! High 82, low 67. Concerts, food, fun everywhere. Because folks tend to think of Branson as a place for old people, I remain surprised at the overwhelming number of young couples (early to late 20's) and young families (early to mid 30's). Yet it is easy to understand when I consider what a family venue this is and how many activities there are for children from concerts just for them, to miniature golf courses, go-kart tracks, laser tags, bumper boats, ferris wheels, the Dinosaur zoo, the Peter Pan show, Imax theaters, etc. And then there are the beautiful lakes stocked with "over a million" trout and other fish, along with boating and skiing. And there are no bars, saloons, or liquor stores. But you can certainly order something in the restaurants, it's just very low-key and I really don't even think I've seen anyone drinking. Kids are just everywhere!
Our first concert of the day was the John Denver tribute show at the Opry Theater. James Garrett, of the two-time Grammy award winning family The Kendalls ("Heaven's Just a Sin Away" for those who remember) is the lead singer and was suffering from some kind of congestion. He managed to pull it off but was pretty hoarse. In talking with one of the band members afterward, I noticed his familiar triangle in a circle necklace which led to a good long talk. BTW, how many people know that three state songs are John Denver songs?! I also should mention that the shows invite folks to sing-a-long. Lunch at the ever familiar Landry's seafood - Tillman misses no opportunity. Anywhere. Everywhere. Evening concert by the Presley family who was the original family to open a little house playing mountain music here in Branson. Large family of all musicians from 5 yrs old to 84 yrs. This event was preceded by a one-hour Gospel sing that we walked into. Reminded me of my Penecostal grandmother and all the old songs she taught me! And I remember most all of the words! Sweet memories of a wonderful woman! Fireworks for the 4th going off as I write this. We've had a good time here but will begin packing early to pull out in the morning. Will be on the road again..... Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
