So, my show opened this past friday night and we played to sold out audiences all weekend. To much of my surprise...we received standing ovations for both shows! I don't know why it really threw me for a loop...maybe because it's a gay themed play performed smack in the middle of Bensonhurst! In any event, it was lots of fun. Two reviewers and a phtographer from, I believe, a local paper attended. We'll see what they have to say. It's interesting though. The audience assumed the play to be a comedy. I mean it is a comedy but I don't think the dichotomy of the other layers was understood. For example, my scenes are not really funny. They tell the story. They're the heart-felt love scenes which are sandwiched by farce. So, by the time it gets to my scenes, the audience can't stop laughing. This ofcourse is something that I get to play with for the rest of the run. :) Kisses to the cast! :()
