Irish nationalists, some dancers, and a lot of blood...what do these three things have in common?

They all represent my weekend! Interested? No? Too bad. So, Friday night my gal pal Tony and I headed to City Center to see the American Ballet Theater perform. I haven't seen too much ballet, but I forgot that after every piece, the dancers take a fifteen minute intermission. So, the entire ballet wasn't so long and yet it was incredibly long. It was beautiful though. I really enjoyed it. Ashley Tuttle who was also in "Movin Out" was one of the featured dancers. So, after the 2 1/2 hour ballet (Which is longer than even some Shakespeare plays) I headed to this fun bar downtown where I went to yet another industry party. It was... fun. So, the bunny and I watched two movies this weekend. The first of which was "Blood Sunday" which I've been dying to see. It was written and directed by Paul Greengras who is directing the upcoming "Bourne Supremacy" movie or I think Universal likes to call it "Bourne 2". Anyway, it's not for those with a weak stomach...hence the title. I'm fascinated with Irish history, so I was glued the whole time. Ofcourse most of the time in Irish movies, their accents are so thick you can't understand the dialogue. In parts of this film, that was the case. It's a story of a politician who chose one day to do a peace march for Freedom from England. Ofcourse the English armies, tried intercepting these marchers. Some of the civilians became agressive towards the British and therefore the British began shooting rounds at them. Many cease-fires were called...the forces kept shooting at them. Innocent peace marchers got caught in the cross-fires and were blown apart. Others were dragged from the crowd and ripped apart. Other innocent unarmed people that were trying to get medical attention who were pulled from their cars and beaten to death...being mistaken for the "radicalists" who began the fight. It reminded me of in "Julius Caeser" how Cinna the poet got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and was mistaked by the angry Roman citizens as Cinna the murderer...and he was beaten to death. What I found most interesting about this film is there is no concept of time. Many of the scenes are very short, very abrupt and when they cut away to the next scene, there was a fade to black every time. It won at the Sundance festival, I think last year and is very much worth seeing. Snickers and I also saw "Gangs of New York". He really like Daniel Day-Lewis because he was the only one in the movie upset that innocent bunnies were being slaughtered. In any event, my buddy Ben (not Affleck...Perlman) and I were talking earlier about how Daniel-Day Lewis completely blew us away. I've admired his work for a long time. He was just amazing. I was telling him that in acting...it's sometimes a very good thing when you get to play opposite...or take a smaller role if you have the chance to work with someone really great in the film aka Daniel Day-Lewis (I know, you get the picture). I really saw a great side of Leonardo DiCaprio. Whenever he was on the screen with Cameron Diaz, I was bored out of my mind for simply obvious reasons. Whenever he was on with Daniel, (yes...just using his first name now.) the scenes were dynamic. It was a really interesting story line and I enjoyed how it ended leaving New York as their "legacy". Aside from the bunny incidents, bunnies and I give it 2 paws up!
