2004-06-02 1:03 PM Those hormonal Cicadas! Read/Post Comments (0) |
Memorial day weekend in Baltimore...that's how it all started.
So, my friend Melanie and I traveled down friday night to Arlington, VA. We got there miraculously in 4 1/2 hours...no holiday traffic! Anyway, once there we stopped off at the country bar and went dancing! This one man liked to 2-step...which I love, but man, he especially loves to spin! After surviving the vertigo, a marine danced with me and he was the 3rd person that evening that commented on my sneakers. Apparently it's taboo to wear Sneakers in a country bar. Anyway, my 2 friends from Virginia, Kate and Rachel, don't do the country thing so we went upstairs to play pool. Then this icky 2000 year old southern man decided to play Kate and I. We won. Very happily. Ofcourse we went back to Rachel's and crashed around 4:00. So, the next day...we all took off for Baltimore! It was at one point along the way to Baltimore we stopped off for something at CVS and Kate wanted to show me her fire-dancing skills (but with ribbons). So, there we were in the parking lot of CVS dancing and waving around a bunch of ribbons when all the sudden a Cicada (You thought I forgot about this, huh)landed on my head and scared the crap out of me when I reached up and looked it in the face. Now, I read an article recently that it's mating season for the cicadas...maybe I mis-read. Anyway, I found it odd how it landed on the top of my head where women exude their pheromones. Probably thinking too much about it...and I think I've mis-spelled a lot so you writers reading this, don't be offended. Traveling the rest of the way to Baltimore, I think I hit 2000 Cicadas with my windshield! Anyway, finally arriving in Baltimore we checked out the Inner Harbor and settled in for the evening to a free concert of my favorite band "They Might Be Giants". It was awesome! Their getting weirder the older they get, but I still love 'em! After the show, one of the John's (both band members are named John) was signing autographs. So, I mentioned to him how excited I was going to be to go to their next concert in August in Brooklyn and that they'd be right in my backyard. Ofcourse knowing their both from Brooklyn...I knew this would spark a conversation. So, John asked me where I was from. I told him Park Slope. He mentioned he lives in Williamsburg and the other John just moved to Park Slope. Suddenly, I became the envy of all my friends. Everyone wants to stay in my itty bitty studio! So, the night ends by all of us grabbing some seafood at Phillips and drinking till the cows come home. Sunday, I drove... making it back to New York in 3 hrs from Baltimore and when I got home, my bunny was sitting on my bed watching hour 46 of the 48 hour marathon of Cheers with Derek. It was a very much needed weekend!!! Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
