2004-08-30 10:52 AM "Kill Bill Volume I" Review / Image Participation Poll Mood: okay, i know i'm a little late on this one... Read/Post Comments (5) |
My brother and I were discussing why certain images in movies stay with you. For instance, I will never forget certain scenes in "Mommy Dearest" (shiver).
He just got done reading "Titus Andronicus" for his Shakespeare class and I fully encourage anyone to see Julie Taymor's "Titus" if you haven't yet. The opening scene is enough to send chills down your spine. I know I'm not reviewing it but it's an amazing must see. As Jason best put it, it's not for the faint of heart. Images in this film are by the leaps and bounds. The storytelling is very explicit...very graphic...you can venture into Julie Taymor's perception of what it means to be in the middle of a constant nightmare. Alan Cumming and Anthony Hopkins playing rivals are both captivating and what is even more engrossing is when Anthony shoves a ladle down Alan's throat. It doesn't sound like much, but trust me. Jessica Lange plays a tantalizing Tamara whose entire character is animalistic and Laura Frazier plays Lavinia who shows her emotional turmoil in a heightened scene/image where she tries to tell Titus who the men were that cut out her tongue and cut off her hands...her only hope that she can spell their names out in the sand. As for "Kill Bill, Volume I", it wasn't only the images but the haunting sounds. Probably what disturbed me most was Daryl Hannah's whistling teh same sharp, dissent tune over and over again...very haunted. The opening image of Uma Thurman is enough to grab anyone's attention and immediately empathy. From a fighter's background, I really enjoyed the choreography...it was so hard to follow with all the camera cuts though. It looked good though and made it atleast look like the actors knew what they were doing. Uma Thurman was great all around. There was a LOT of corny dialogue that she made sincere or made sense of it within the context of the story as a whole. Quentin Tarantino always gets solid work out of his actors...what an amazing experience to someday get a chance to work with him. SO HERE'S YOUR PART... I'm tired of talking to myself and feel like playing, post a comment on a film you've seen whose specific images have left an imprint in your brain years later and describe those images/your experience. Check back in the postings and you can view others responses as well as mine. Remember there are no stupid postings. :) And...go! Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
