2006-08-09 11:25 AM An Evening with Spiegelworld Mood: A German Burlesque Read/Post Comments (0) |
So, Braglia and I went to see Spiegelworld's "Absinthe" last night at South Street Seaport. It's a combination variety show/burlesque/vaudeville entertainment all under a circus tent! Last night was opening night which was cool...neither of us realized that. It was the most awesome, very original show! The performers are right there in your face. For the 2 hour performance, you are taken to a completely different time. It's a very raw show and if you don't like naked people, this may not be your thing. Here's a quote from their website if you're in New York City and are interested in checking them out. This show is already selling out. It's only running for nine weeks in the city. Naturally, being New York, there is a bar both inside and outside the tent so you can drink during the show and afterwards under the stars.
"From their beginnings in Belgium at the turn of the last century, these iconic tents have been traveling the world as part of arts festivals and fairs. The famous and the infamous have performed in these haloed halls. Made from finest teak and beveled mirrors, and looked after lovingly by a small band of owners, these exceptional venues have never failed to enthrall, delight, surprise and seduce."
