Free Mini Massages
If you've been to Boqueria lately, you may have noticed the strange "Touch and Be Touched" signs along 19th Street. We're not sure where the "touch" part comes in, but it's been confirmed that the "be touched" means free massages for everyone through mid-October.
Who could be so kind? Advertisers, of course. They've thrown together this large-scale event to promote a new lotion from Nivea. Surprisingly, though, there's little sales pitch. As I took a seat for my arm, back and shoulder rubs, the new product was the last thing on my mind. I was a captive audience, yet the hired therapists didn't say a word. You don't even have to bother with the rest of the product campaign (an interactive, touch-based art exhibit). Just ask where the free massages are and walk straight back, or you can stop to feel up a big female bust plastered with suede, feathers, puzzle pieces and popsicle sticks--it's your call.
On your way out, humor the one girl giving a nano-second Nivea schpiel and you’ll also be rewarded with a small gift bag (sample of new lotion, disk jar of cream). Then come back for more massages and gift bags everyday.
The Nivea Touches New York event will be held at 31 West 19th Street between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue until October 14.
