Tuesday night, I went to see an advanced screening at the director's guild of "Dream Girls". Wow...wow...wow!!! I had chills for the entire movie.

Jennifer Hudson is a power house. For such a powerhouse, she did an awesome job mainly for film. Everything is that much closer, much more intimate. There was once I noticed she was shifting her weight to the song and you could just see how hard it was to contain the energy and power...learning where to direct it for the screen vs. the stage. You know, it's interesting. I've seen a few interviews regarding this film and everyone mentions how great it is to work with the top three...beyonce, eddie murphy and jamie foxx. All three were great, but none of them even acknowledged this newcomer. Eddie Murphy I SOOOO loved! What a great role for him.

The only criticism I have has to do with the technical/direction of the piece. Specifically, the intention of the film. Watching dreamgirls for the first 20 minutes, I felt like I was watching a movie, movie. Then suddenly, all the dialogue that was "spoken" earlier in the film was "sung". At that point the movie became more of a movie musical or rock opera so the tone changed somewhat. At the end, it blended the two genres. That was confusing...so confusing that it took me out of the movie enough to realize it.

However, with that said, it was my only criticism. What an awesome story and solid cast and you'll find yourself bouncing in your seat.

The critic behind me wasn't too happy with that. :)

An ABSOLUTE MUST SEE!!!
