AT LAST... I got to the theater yesterday to see "The Jane Austen Book Club." I can be safe to say that this is a serious chick flick but tons of fun. I don't know many men no matter how little testosterone they possess that may indeed enjoy this movie. I however LOVED LOVED LOVED it. It was just the froth I needed in my day. Maria Bello and Emily Blunt were the most enjoyable. It was an interesting concept pairing up one of Austen's novels with the corresponding character whose life at that point was most like the scenerio and drive of the women in the novels. Hugh Dancy was the only boy "allowed" in the book club and he was borderline annoying. He had some fun moments being the one man in the middle of a "bee hive". However, whenever I found myself rolling my eyes, one of the other women in the book club (everytime) rolled their eyes as well. So I found that funny. Amy Brenneman has a great character and does a great job with her but she plays this same character over and over again. The expression "if it ain't broke don't fix it" doesn't work here. I'm snoring.

The movie itself is quite enjoyable and a great rainy day movie but nothing earth-shattering. This coming from a HUGE Austen fan.

Three Stars
