2005-10-06 9:19 AM Going Postal Now I understand why postal workers feel the need to shoot up their work place. Dealing with a government agency is enough to make anyone lose their last screw.
I lost my son's SS card and before he can get his lazy ass to work, i have to get a replacement. he actually has a job if i can just get this done. i've spent three wonderful days and about four fucking hours of my life in the SS office. the first day i stood in line for about thirty minutes, and then realized i needed to fill out the form. stupid me didn't have a pen, and god knows every pen the SS office once had has since been stolen (man, ya gotta love the american people, they'll steal anything even if it's chained down) A SS lady on the telephone told me all i needed was my son's report card and my id. so the next day i stood in line for nearly two hours. when i got up to the window, the refused my son's report card because there was no birthdate on it. he hasn't received his school id yet, so that was out. of course i said, "his school id doesn't have his birthdate on it anyway" to which she replied, that it didn't have to if it was a picture id, but if there was no picture id, then i needed to bring something with his name and birthdate on it. and of course, even though i'm on disability and i have his beneficiary report from the SS office itself, they don't take their own paperwork as identification. needless to say, i was a little pissed (anger issues rearing it's ugly grey streaked head). so i go back again, getting there thirty minutes before they open. there were already twenty-five people in line ahead of me. i stood in line for about an hour with my son's birth certificate and a shot record. weeeeelllll, they don't take birth certificates as id, and the shot record i had for him was over five years old. by this time i'm looking for a gun. maybe the guard had one(now i know why they HAVE a guard). i've used a gun before(and i'm a pretty damn good shot) and i'm not afraid to use it again. she suggested a school record with his vitals on it. i reminded her that it would be copy(which they don't allow) to which she tells me as long as it has an official stamp on it, then that's fine. so i spoke to the school this morning and they're getting things ready for me. god help those SS people if i go down there and wait in line again only to be told i still don't have it right.
