2008-02-13 4:30 PM my writerly friends... might especially enjoy this article. once a newsletter edition for the now defunct "for the love of writing" workshop, it is the benefit of my college non-fiction writing/editing class. someone paid big bucks for me to take this class, so ya'll (and anyone else) might as well benefit....
Spice Up Any Speech or Essay by Using Rhetorical Devices While this is focused mainly on non-fiction, you'll see one of the examples is from Tom Wolfe...it is easily adapted to fiction writing as well, and let's face it, for those of you who have read a lot of my fiction writing, i'm sure you'll recognize a few of these devices. and for those whose fiction writing i've critique, the biggest crit being "too much repetition in this sentence" it's because repetition only works when in a "proper," purposeful form...lol...
