2008-11-05 12:22 AM when looking at my old county in nc's stats, it was always split just about 50/50...charlotte is after all the second largest banking city in america. we're talking lots of money, and lots of money usually follows republican ideology.
not so this year...seems obama killed in mecklenburg county. Mecklenburg Party Candidate V% Votes D Barack Obama 62% 247,241 R John McCain 37% 148,732 if you look at the results county to county you can generally see the counties with a large minority population and those largely white. mecklenburg has always had a large minority population, and it's been said that the city is probably more african american than white...at least the school district has reported it that way. and charlotte also has a lot of well to do, professional african american folks...only in the past years, most of the lower income african americans just didn't show up to vote. i always suspected the upper middle class african americans are what kept it kind of split down the middle... the thought of the first african american president must have finally lit a fire under asses the lower classes. because i've never seen such an overwhelming difference between the parties.
