2008-12-01 11:57 PM need the help of my artistic homies when i was younger (note i said younger, meaning very young) my sister turned me on to jethro tull's "songs of the woods" i liked it, it was different. and to this day, i still like this album.
after that other than Aqualung and Locomotive I never heard much more from him. Honestly, up until the early 90's maybe i never paid much attention to lyrics, it was the music that always swayed me and i never gave any deeper thought to the words themselves...but the other night someone pointed out to me the opening lyrics to Aqualung. the two takes on this are...one, he's a pedophile or two, it's how society looks negatively at the homeless. regardless of the artist's intent, lyrics are always subjective...what's your take on the song? Sitting on a park bench -- Eyeing little girls with bad intent. Snot running down his nose -- Greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes. Drying in the cold sun -- Watching as the frilly panties run. Feeling like a dead duck -- Spitting out pieces of his broken luck. Sun streaking cold -- An old man wandering lonely. Taking time The only way he knows. Leg hurting bad, As he bends to pick a dog-end -- He goes down to the bog And warms his feet. Feeling alone -- The armys up the rode Salvation la mode and A cup of tea. Aqualung my friend -- Dont start away uneasy You poor old sod, you see, its only me. Do you still remember Decembers foggy freeze -- When the ice that Clings on to your beard is Screaming agony. And you snatch your rattling last breaths With deep-sea-diver sounds, And the flowers bloom like Madness in the spring. i'll give my take on this song after you give yours. ;-) Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
