Let's Talk About Art Baby

let's talk about you and me...

ok, enough of the lyrics.

yes. lala has been trying to go back to her artistic roots. My mom was a pretty accomplished local artist in our town. she had her prejudices which kind of stunted my artistic growth.

it's kind of ironic that the community college art instructor she hated the most was the one that opened me up to so much more than the "impressionists" (my mom's favorite style of art and don't get me wrong, i LOVE them...but there's more to the artistic life than one style...one period)

so here we go...i've been delving into art again. it's been several years...well, i did a few things that you can find at
Southern Expressions.

and it's kind of odd (not funny odd) that my mom is willing to support both my son and my sis's middle child to go into the art world. she couldn't do that for me or my sis (sis wanted to be a writer, i wanted to be an artist/writer) but she'll gladly egg on her grandchildren to follow their artistic paths.

heh!

so...i just got back at it...d has a sketch (original) i did in northern florida...the painting of it didn't turn out, but when my son tells me of the sketch "that's really good" i believe him and d has confirmed it's not horrific (and d, because of z's opinion is why you were sent that sketch. maybe one day it will be worth something...as all artists hope happens but rarely does)

so i have figured out a few things...i don't like acrylics, i don't like oil pastels, i don't like watercolors.

so what does that leave me with? well chalk/oil pastels and guache. my son just asked me "what is guache?" guache is like watercolors only opaque. there is no transparency to it.

why do i like chalk oil pastels? because it is so much easier to blend than just oil pastels. it's like working in photoshop only with chalk/oil pastels, the fingers get so much dirtier.

so, without further ado...the two pieces i have whipped together this week. yes they both need some work, but it's a start.

Beach (yes, i need more to this, and it's crimped...i'm not sure what to add, i don't want to do the typical palm tree, maybe some birds, but i don't want the typical beach gear...oh i'm lost on this.)

Flower not too thrilled with the shadowing (z isn't either and i trust his opinion because he is right brained...thank god for that,) but over all i like it.
