2009-07-21 10:22 AM update so the video store down the street from me, who used to be owned by a guy who had a jack russel terrier, had a break in. he i think sold the place to someone else. so yesterday as i, yes stopped at the nearby liquor store, had a sign out that he (as it turns out...she) has puppies for sale. i couldn't help myself. i've been looking for pound puppies, there was kind of a glitch in that and i've been scouring petfinder.com classifieds. but yesterday, i went and looked the puppies. sooooo cute puppies are.
i thought i had found the perfect dog, here in cape canaveral. but when i called they had decided to keep their dogs. so today, i will pick z up and with my vet tech friend, sam, and tracy, who also wants a dog, we will look at the puppies. i want sam to tell me the puppies are ok. i saw at least one (another was suspect) with small patches of hair missing off their haunches. but there are two, with very distinct markings, one chocolate and white, one blonde and white that i have my eye on. given i had a "buckskin" horse, one has those markings. blonde with a black tail, black around the eyes, that i like, but he's the one with patches of hair missing. they all have green eyes. i'm thinking, pit bull. when i ask the owner, what breed are they? she tells me terrier, bull and cur. i saw the mama and she must be cur...long haired, she looks like a black retriever...but that would be cur. cur is a huge thing in this area...classified as a hound dog they are hunters. as for the pit (lady said terrier...as in pit bull terrier, or that could have been the bull part.), sam says most mutts here have pit bull in them, which explains why the shelters here are full of them. i'm really not sure i want to do the puppy route, but they are soooooo stinking cute. and i need a dog, bad! i spent the last 10 years with a dog...and pet sitting diego has only proved to z and i how much we miss having a dog. at any rate, i couldn't pick out a puppy without z's input, and sam was a vet tech so i'm going to have her look the puppies over (kind of like having a mechanic look over a used car)tracy wants a dog too, only sadly, her hubby, larry will end up being in charge of that. nuff said. sam says i can have her crate she'll get a bigger one for diego from her aunt. all i need the crate for is potty training. now i have to ask myself...do i really want to do a puppy again? oh, julie, one of the women in my complex has two bunnies as pets. i'll send you photos.
