Health Care Debate is getting uglier and uglier

Well, i don't know if you folks have been keeping up with this. i know a few of you are apolitical, and a few of you have your own immediate problems to deal with, but me, well, you know, i do have time on my hands and i'm very political.

see, there are several hc bills floating around more than a few different committees (seriously, how anything gets done in this country is a miracle) none are finalized, none have been voted on, although i think one committee's bill was voted on by the house. the long and short of it, health care ain't gonna be done by the deadline. it's not complicated but of course, our congressional branch has to make it complicated. i guess they don't feel like they are earning their keep unless it is complicated (uh, i should mention, complete with government run, tax payer paid for health care)

all that being said, congressmen are holding town hall meetings in their respective districts over their august break. many of the congressmen are democrats, although there are some republican meetings being held as well. these meetings are OPEN to anyone (unlike Bush's town hall meetings) to come and discuss in a civilized manner, the concerns and questions of every citizen, what's in the proposed bills and to squash all the negative propaganda that not only the conservative pundits (such as rush, hannity, beck and well, fox in general) as well as even the gop congressmen themselves are putting out there.

the above had instructed their "followers" to disrupt these meetings. people (even on both sides) who are there to ask questions and get answers are being shouted down by these, yes, let's call a spade a spade, hooligans.

these astroturf organizations (called that because they are not grassroots, yet funded and sponsored by corporations and big mucky-mucks in the republican party,) are spurring these people on. stirring the pot and in many cases busing the folks in. congressmen have been threatened with death, surrounded by angry mobs, and in one or more cases, the meeting has been canceled completely. In Tampa, violence broke out (albeit, kind of mild, some guy was slammed against a wall and his shirt was ripped)

So the unions, in the face of the republican hooligans, are mobilizing to counteract them. here is a phone call one union received.

and they say irony is dead. so this thug who disrupts civil discourse is telling the union not to be thugs and disrupt her thuggery or else they'll be shot. then she ends with "stop the violence"

see the problem is, these republicans who show up at these meetings aren't there to have civil discourse. they show up with signs saying "obama is a fascist" ok, just a quick note on that, first he was a socialist, now he's a fascist. which one is it people? stalin or hitler? you can't have it both ways. pick an ism and stick to it. socialism or fascism, which one is it? see, this is the mentality. they don't even know the difference.

old people show up at these meetings screaming "keep your hands off my medicare" not knowing that medicare is a government funded "socialist" program. again, irony is dead? i think not.

to me, this boils down to two things: 1. the repub leaders and pundits are once again using scare tactics (the government wants to kill old people) and 2. most of these people aren't really protesting healthcare. they are protesting this president, who their guy lost to. and while many will say, and it's probably partially true, because he's a half black guy with a muslim name, who 34% of them don't believe, despite showing his birth certificate, was born in this country.

liberals are generally rational. they want to reason with people. they don't mind a good, even heated discussion if you can talk intelligently on the subject.

but this is not driven by intelligence. even when given the facts, they react emotionally. and deny the facts are true. i'm just saying, watch closely. the civil war was started by a minority, castro's revolution was a minority, che reviera was in the minority, afghanistan against the USSR was in the minority (ok, we helped a little.) Hey, d, didn't the faulklin's kick your butt too? minority.

we are liable to lose health care reform to the minority (seriously, liberals are such pussies, the right knows how to fight dirty and they win almost every time they do. nice guys finish last and all)

want to know how nasty this has become...this was a video edited and chopped to pieces (it has been proven to be so) yet read the comments. this is how nasty this has become and we should be afraid (after all, these are gun-toting, god loving, christian americans, they want theirs but don't want all you lazy slackers to have yours)

Comments from God fearing right-wing, Christian Americans

in closing...

i'll leave you with this link...one of my favs, bill maher (and i can't wait to pirate his program tomorrow)

New Rule: Smart President does not equal Smart Country you guys know i have complained about the ignorance of the average American for years. Jay Leno's Jaywalking was proof of that, as was the video i'm sure i posted on here about "stupid Americans"

Our high school curriculum is one that any European 6th grader could pass with ease.

ok, rant over (for now) If you can, visit your town hall meeting. take your camera or webcam or even the camera in your phone. WE are the majority. WE voted for change. while this bill may not be perfect, and believe me i've read through some of it, it is better than the status quo and it's a step in the correct direction and hopefully will keep the "right" out of office for several more years. hopefully to their complete demise.

enough is enough from the rethuglicans. (*sigh* and to think i used to be one)
