2009-08-30 7:53 PM my mind is officially blown wow. in between the liquor store and the video store (where i got my puppy) there used to be a carribean restaurant. only trevor moved his place over to a1a. another guy came along and bought the place (or at least rented it)
sam-never-met-a-stranger-in-her-life had seen the guy outside on day while they were still in the decorating stages. she asked after a job for her husband. mark (yes, yet another mark) had told her he had worked as a cook for years and finally decided he'd sink his life savings into a place of his own. his restaurant became lil kahuna. it is kind of a fast food island food place. fish tacos, shrimp, jerk chicken sandwiches. when they first opened, z and i tried it out. not bad, not the best by any means, but decent food at very decent prices, especially around here. i had befriended his 17 yr old son, nate, through pam's son, grady. nice kid, but he had some issues because his dad had remarried and had a new baby. almost every time i went to (yes, get off my ass) the liquor store, he'd be standing outside (mark) having a smoke. i'd say my hello and he'd say hello back. i just saw him probably tues or weds of last week. fri i go over there and his new wife is locking up the place (early) and i see there is a note on the door saying something to the effect "closed till monday due to serious family illness" i didn't think too much about it. i figured maybe her mom or dad died and they had to travel somewhere for the funeral. i saw nate later that day or the next around the neighborhood. tonight i went to sam's and saw a stack of flyers on her table. i picked one of them up and it had mark's photo on it. "in loving memory" apparently mark wasn't feeling well, he went to the back of the restaurant and laid down. several mins later, the wife notices he's not responding and calls the ambulance. he was already dead. he was only 40 years old. these kind of deaths always shake me up. he was young, realizing his dream, and had no symptoms other than he just wasn't feeling well. rest in peace, mark williams.
