2009-09-08 6:17 PM Peacocks, Rockets and Weeds Remember how i used to complain about the geese that stopped traffic all over charlotte. and the spring was the worst, because then they had their little geeselings (what are they called? they're goslings right?) trailing behind them, often times across 4 lanes of 55 mph hour streets.
well, here, it's peacocks. yep, you heard it right, peacocks. they live a little further down from me, and usually hang out at the 6 1/2 million dollar trailer park (it's for sale if anyone is interested) or further up (down?) the street at one of the nice houses with a fence. This morning i took nick to work at the port, and they slowly sauntered their way across the street. a little further down the road, they were off to the side, feasting on grass(? i have no idea what peacocks eat), and then on the return trip, one of them was stubbornly in the middle of the road. it's a sight to behold, that's for sure, and hey, it's not every day, or every one who can say they had to stop in the middle of the road for crossing peacocks. **** I really have to remember to check the nasa site more often. tonight i missed the launch of a delta rocket. of course, the sonic boom doesn't come until much later in any launch. by the time i heard it, it was already out of sight leaving only a smoke trail in it's wake. **** i kept hearing a lot about the weeds series (on showtime or hbo) so since i caught up on the first three seasons of the tudors (very good, awaiting the next episode, or season,) i decided to give weeds a look see. i have to say i enjoy it. the premise is a suburban housewife's husband drops dead of a heart attack at the age of 40-45(ish) so in order to support her and her two sons in their affluent neighborhood, she begins selling weed to all her wealthy suburban neighbors. elizabeth perkins plays her uptight neighborhood friend who doesn't know what she's doing, but her lawyer husband does. and kevin neelon is funny as the city council guy (who's a blind bush supporter because he used to buy weed from laura bush at SMU...and she had good stuff...lol) to me, one of the underlying messages is weed is really pretty mainstream...you just don't know who all among you smokes and still manages to lead productive lives. the relationship between her and the black family who supplies her is funny. however, not sure what "weeds" title is all about unless that's supposed to be like a metaphor. cause weed is weed, there is no s on it.
