d.c. part three

the day of the wedding, we get up and have a few hours to kill, so i drag z to see the washington monument and the lincoln memorial. man, i'm here to tell you, that is a long walk between the two. i had to laugh because there are some huge-ass geese in the reflecting pool and people were taking pictures of them like they'd never seen a goose before. oye.

when we get back to the hotel, we get dressed and i go up and check on brie who is getting ready and the mothers and bride's maids are all getting their hair done. oh my god, brie's dress was beautiful! i had carted and carried my mom's big ass hat on the plane and i wore that to the wedding.

as i was sitting outside waiting to leave, the hummer limo pulls up to take the bridal party around d.c. to snap some photos. jay, the groom, works for a firm who lobbies basically for the republican party (yes, healthcare is one of the things he's been lobbying for, or against, depending on how you look at it) brie has her law degree and is a congressional aid for congressman (or senator, not sure which) levin, a staunch democrat. yes, this marriage is mary matlin/ james carvelle or maria shiver/ arnold swartzenager all over again.

so the hummer limo shows up and passing tourists are so intrigued that several of them stop and have whoever they are with take their picture standing beside it. again, really?

the wedding was a little more traditional than sivi's, as jay is jewish and sivi's husband, corey, is not. the synagogue was very pretty and one of the oldest in the city. once the ceremony and all the photos had been taken, we head off to the reception at this "old boy" washington club. the filet was to die for. and there is nothing more fun than a jewish wedding. they do the chair/circle dance where they place the bride and groom each in a chair and then carry them around the dance floor. giora did his traditional jewish dance (although even he admits he's getting a little too old to do) and then they put the father in laws in the chairs and carried them around the dance floor. then every body forms a circle and dances. i think i'll have giora find me a nice jewish man (and he tells z he'll find him a nice jewish girl)

the next day, we take the subway to a bus stop where the bus then takes us to dulles airport. man, that airport has changed drastically since i was there as a teen. but at least they have smoking rooms available in the gates terminal. our stewardess on the way home was a complete rude bitch though. and for some reason, my ankles and feet swelled and i now have canckles. i don't know if it was all the walking in flip flops or not.

anyway, we're home again, home again, and we had a great time. d.c. is a very pretty city. they've cleaned it up quite a bit and i tell you, you'd be hard pressed to find a cigarette butt littering the sidewalks.
