Recommended reading: Five Quarts NPR Link, I think this is the interview with the minister in Africa. He's pro-condom, despite Vatican views. I believe that he also said that, while abstinence can be taught, it is unrealistic in that area. The cultural dynamic gives men the power to demand sex, and women have no power to refuse that demand. I'm not sure how well condoms could be integrated into that dynamic, but it's nice to hear someone *thinking*. Another NPR Link. Pretty good success rate in Haiti. Too bad we can't pay to provide drugs to poor Americans. But the health system rant is for another day. It's not that I think we shouldn't be helping out on this worldwide, but the dynamic here of 'only the rich who can afford medical treatment deserve it' just grates my nerves. Ok, ok, no rant.
