When in doubt, here's yesterday...

6:15. Get up and crash on the couch to keep Ian company while he gets ready for school.

6:50. Shower, etc.

7:15. In the office, checking e-mail, tweaking the To-Do List.

7:45. Wake up Sean, get breakfast around.

8:30. Leanne's on vacationi this week, so she took the dog out. I dithered a bit, got my gym stuff together, poured a caffeinated beverage.

8:55. Headed out. Stopped to get gas--$2.99/gallon--and stopped at the credit union to deposit a check. Then drove to the doctor's office to discuss blood work.

9:45. They bring me in and take my temp (normal), pulse (high), and blood pressure (110/80), then I sit reading "Takedown" by Brad Thor for 15 minutes until the PA shows up to discuss my bloodwork. Everything has come down--insulin, cholesterol, triglycerides--so she tells me to keep doing what I'm doing, which is exercising a lot and watching what I eat.

10:15. Leave doctor's office, drive to gym.

10:30. Gym. Cardio day. 20 minutes on the exercise bike. 15 minutes running on the treadmill.

11:30. Home. Leanne's started painting the bedroom. I hit the office. Missed a call, check e-mail.

12:00. We have lunch. Burrito for Leanne, leftover BBQ chicken for me.

12:30. Back in the office. Start working the phone, calling for interviews, follow-ups.

1:00. Write lab profile

2:30. Intv CEO of biotech company. Transcribe and write the piece.

3:00. Ian home. I chat for a minute with him.

3:15. Write column for the month for ADVANCE. Spend some time on the phone.

4:00. Sean home. Rachel is over. Sounds like an orgy going on above my head. An 8-year-old, 10-year-old, 12-year-old and an 88 pound dog running around screaming, playing the piano.

4:15. Get e-mail from editor. Asks if I want more. I say sure. A few minutes later, receive 10 assignments. Start going through the press releases and organizing the assignment files. Find 2 duplicates. He sends more.

5:00. Receive contract from another editor--when it rains it pours, thank God--for another article assignment. I print it, sign it, get it ready to mail. I have a question about the assignment and e-mail it to him.

5:25. Call it a day. Have a headache. Take Tylenol, lay down with US Today.

5:45. We eat dinner.

6:15. Do dishes.

7:15. Head off to karate.

9:10. Home again. Go back and forth between watching "House" and reading.

10:00. Bed.

Best,
Mark Terry
