2001-12-07 8:50 PM A good news day Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Happy Naturally enough, the Trilogy gal hadn't called me back yet, so I gave her another jingle. She is a delightful woman who answers her own phone, believe it or not. We chatted for a little while -- she was a bit surprised that my agent hadn't passed along her notes, but I explained that not only does he not read my material, but he isn't a TV guy, and he's retiring. So, she kindly gave me the two things that made her hesitate about the script.
Note that word: hesitate. She (and I'm sick of using pronouns, so I'll call her Clara) felt that it wasn't clear enough that my three dominant characters could hold up an episode on their own. They work fine together, but she couldn't tell if they'd be able to be the focus of his or her own episode. I can understand that. Even though I intend the lives of these three people to constantly intertwine through the four seasons of the show, the Powers That Be need to feel that there's room for individuality. The second note was that Clara wanted to see one of them make a clearer, more definite choice to take up the mantle of leadership or not. Okay, I have no problems with either of those notes. I'm not sure how to solve the first yet, but I know how to deal with the second. And I'll happily go through my script and add what she was missing. Why? Because Clara wants to read a rewrite and the bible. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, she didn't say "no." Not only did Clara not say no, but she said that this kind of show would be exactly up Trilogy's alley to produce and she wants to see the rewrite and the bible. She's interested. As far as accomplishing my Monday goal, I've succeeded and then some. My elation isn't nearly what it was last week. Instead, I feel calm. The hardest part is done -- I've targeted the right market and I've captured her interest. On January 2, 2002 I'll send Clara a draft especially written for her, the bible, and then see what happens. In other news, I've found out that my agent probably has sold his company to a husband-wife team. The husband has been an actor and producer, so probably has more connections than Fred. Not only that, but Fred's stipulation on the deal is that the new owners take on all existing clients under our current agreements. Since Fred and I signed a standard three-year deal, I will still have representation. Needless to say, this is a HUGE relief to me. Now, I must off to read some scripts that I'm doing coverage on (for pay) for a fellow up north. Since they're due on Monday, I've got to get cracking! Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
