2004-04-03 8:05 PM Beyond the Basics with Richard Walter Previous Entry :: Next Entry Every once in a while, I go to a writing seminar. My reasons for doing so vary -- sometimes for craft, sometimes for contacts. Today, I went to this seminar for both reasons.
Overall, I'm satified with the event. Craft-wise, he does well with supportive suggestions on how to tighten narrative and dialog to create an economical story that makes the most of every word on every page. It's actually the same (or very similar) class I took when I first came out to LA. As far as being "beyond" the basics, I have a mixed feeling about it. It certainly was more than basic formatting, but I felt that it was overly basic for me. However, I take that as a positive thing -- what I learned the first time stuck. With regards to the networking, I was able to do some of that as well. Mostly with the coordinator and with Mr. Walter, which is fine. One of the things about this course, is that Mr. Walter will do a free read of one of my scripts, then we'll be able to talk about it some. He's also been known to forward material to his extensive network of industry contacts. Talent affirmed, contacts made. All in all a good afternoon. Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
