There's a certain editor I occasionally send my poetry to who just doesn't like my work. She has never said a positive thing about my submissions, and it has become a game for me to see what sort of negative comments I receive in my rejections. I was told by this editor that my latest submission was "very vague and unfocused." Her comments made me chuckle, as they always do, but I have to wonder how someone less confident in their writing would react.

As a poetry editor, I believe that comments on submissions should be constructive. If I don't have anything positive to say about a poem, I don't say anything about it at all.

It's a shame that this other editor doesn't feel that way.
