2005-12-29 8:26 PM Personal vs. Promotional Blogs Sherwood Smith has an interesting post (with equally interesting comments) on her LiveJournal regarding personal vs. promotional blogs and the effectiveness of both such blogs for promoting the work of writers. Her post left me thinking about my own blogs (this one and its mirror on LiveJournal) and how impersonal they are. I always thought the details of my personal life were simply uninteresting, and, frankly, I am a rather private person. As a result, my blogs have always focused on my creative projects with occasional posts on creative topics. I never really thought of my blogs as promotional venues, but, looking back over my past entries, they certainly look like promotional blogs. Hmph.
Here is what I would like to know: Does the lack of personal detail in this journal detract from the reading experience for visitors? Does this blog feel too much like an ad blog? What, if anything, would visitors like to read other than the present content of my blog? Read/Post Comments (10) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
