So this is an exercise from Firewolf. It just samples what I have recorded on my computer - which isn't all of my music but it's the most comprehensive collection I have in one place - at random. So... it doesn't make all that much sense, really. I think tomorrow I'll write out the soundtrack as if I were the music editor for my life. Here we go: If your life were a soundtrack, what would the music be? Here’s how it works: 1. Open your library (iTunes, winamp, media player, iPod). 2. Put it on shuffle. 3. Press play. 4. For every question, type the song that’s playing. 5. New question– press the next button. 6. Don’t lie and try to pretend you’re cool. Opening Credits "Pushit," Tool What is this but my reflection? Who am I to judge and strike you down? But you're pushing and shoving me. You still love me and you pushit on me. Waking Up "Rakim," Dead Can Dance Not a bad song to wake up to... ethereal and got quite a nice tribal beat. Lisa sings beautifully (as always) in her made up verbalizations. At the end Brendan chimes with a few short verses in English, including: Favored signs to find hope In the rounds of life Favored rhymes to find hope In the sands of life First Day of School "Judith (Renholder Remix)," A Perfect Circle This is something of a more electronica version of the original, but the lyrics parse the same. You're such an inspiration for the ways That I'll never ever choose to be Oh so many ways for me to show you How the savior has abandoned you Fuck your God Your Lord and your Christ Falling in Love "La Llorona," traditional (from Frida soundtrack) This version is sung by Lila Downs and Mariachi de Tecalitlan Juvenil. There's another version on the soundtrack, somewhat different verses but approximately the same chorus, sung by Selma Hayek. No dejare de querrerte, llorona aunque la vida me cueste No dejare de querrerte, llorona aunque la vida me cueste todos me dicen "el negro," llorona, negro pero carinoso todos me dicen "el negro," llorona, negro pero carinoso yo soy como el chile verde, llorona, picante pero sabroso yo soy como el chile verde, llorona, picante pero sabroso Translation: I will not stop loving you, llorona, even if it costs my life I will not stop loving you, llorona, even if it costs my life Everyone calls me "el negro," llorona, black but kind Everyone calls me "el negro," llorona, black but kind I'm like a green chile, llorona, spicy but flavorful I'm like a green chile, llorona, spicy but flavorful (N.B. "llorona" is a female who cries, in the song it's the person the singer is addressing. "Negro" is not just the color black, it's also a description for someone with a bleak temperament, and occasionally someone with quite a temper. "El negro" can mean "the black man" (race-wise) but here it means the singer is called after his personality. They're effectively personal pronouns thus I'm not going to change them.) Breaking Up "Forty Six & 2," Tool I've been crawling on my belly clearing out what could've been I've been wallowing in my own chaotic and insecure delusions. I wanna feel the change consume me, feel the outside turning in. I wanna feel the metamorphosis and cleansing I've endured within my shadow. Prom "Shelf Life," Seven Mary Three I didn't go to prom, but never mind. Words keep falling from my mouth trying just to slow them keep on spilling around saying why do you hurt me? Life’s Okay "Undenied," Portisehead Beneath your tender touch My senses can't divide Ohh so strong My desire For so bare is my heart, I can't hide And so where does my heart, belong Mental Breakdown "From a Shell," Lisa Germano This seems to fit actually quite well. From a little shell At the bottom of the sea Was the Earth and the Moon And the Sun above me But the world fell down With some people still around There is love, there is love To be found With the Gods all gone And the souls making sounds In the worst way, in the worst way In the worst way Driving "No Love, No Nothin'," Marlene Deitrich No love, no nothin' until my baby comes home no sir, no nothin', as long as baby may roam I promised him to wait for him till even Hades froze I'm lonesome, Heaven knows but what I said still goes Flashback "Bachelorette," Bjork Leave me now, return tonight Tide will show you the way If you forget my name You will go astray Like a killer whale Trapped in a bay I don't know which part I like better, the bit at the end that's in Icelandic or this part about a killer whale. God love Bjork. Getting Back Together "To the Teeth," ani di franco open fire on Hollywood open fire on MTV open fire on NBC and CBS and ABC open fire on the NRA and all the lies they told us along the way open fire on each weapons manufacturer while he's giving head to some Republican senator and if I hear one more time about a fool's right to his tools of rage I'm gonna take all my friends and I'm going to move to Canada where we can die of old age Wedding "1000 Oceans," Tori Amos These tears I've cried I've cried 1000 oceans and if it seems I'm floating in the darkness well I can't believe that I would keep keep you from flying so I will cry 1000 more if that's what it takes to sail you home Birth of a Child "Do U Fear (for Your Child)?," My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult Just about apropos, don't you think? Especially with the creepy child singing the intro. The crazies demanding to shut out the daylight Soldiers are dancing on rotting empires TV disease is making us tired Death struts the streets It's high on the bile Final Battle "Harm of Will," Bjork And if he has chosen the point While she is under him Then leave her coyly placed crouched sucking him For it is I with Her on knee I definitely like the Icelandic part in this song best. Death Scene "Burn," Nine Inch Nails (Live at Woodstock) Well kind of relevant. sort of. The studio version is on the Natural Born Killers soundtrack. I am the agent (I never was a part of you) BURN I am corruption (I never was a part of you) BURN I am the angel (I never was a part of you) BURN Of your destruction (I never was a part of you) BURN Funeral Song "The Last Ray," This Mortal Coil A nice instrumentation, I suppose it would go well say as a casket is brought up. It's somewhat plaintive while it looks out over the horizon. End Credits "Serpent's Serenade," This Ascension Would you com here Would you come for me... Would you come if I called Your name? With a slight shift Tiny utterance Soft, sweetest tinge of pain Sheer as your lips clenched Was that a sigh? With a wish would time pass Me right by? Would you come for me Would you come here... Would you come if I called Your name? Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
