2005-04-03 10:57 PM Read a Good Meme Lately? Some questions about reading, discovered at Martha, who found them at Geeky Mom, but that were originated by PsychoKitty:
If you had to pick five fictional literary characters who would best embody you (in some aspect, either now or in the past), who would you choose? Piggy from Lord of the Flies The Older Michael Toliver (in personality, not looks or sexual prowess) from the Tales of the City books Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter Books Rev. Thomas Dunn from Looking for It (Michael Thomas Ford) Harriet M. Welsch from Harriet the Spy Which five books (any genre) have had the greatest influence on you? Becoming a Man by Paul Monette The Secret Garden by F. Hodgson Burnett The Gospel of Luke A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle (Tie) Traveling Mercies and Bird by Bird by A. Lamott What is your favorite commonly censored book? To Kill a Mockingbird or Catcher in the Rye If you would ever burn a book (God forbid), which book would it be? Why? Little Black Sambo…possibly the most racist children’s book every produced….my Mother still owns a copy. "It's an heirloom...and it's a sweet story." NOT! There are also a few children's books I reviewed in Seminary dealing with death and children's experiences with death.....they were truly, truly awful. Are you a monogamous reader, or do you like to read around? Are you kidding….at any given time I have one in the bathroom, one on the bed, one in the car, one at my office, and one waiting to be read on a trip. Last one, and be honest: Do you skip ahead to the ending? Never before the end of the third chapter….and then usually only on books I’ve decided I don’t like and don’t want to finish.
