2007-03-08 9:19 PM Um....Scientists are instructed not to talk about science....um......WTF? Reuters is reporting on a memo that has come to light instructing US scientists on the government's payroll who are traveling abroad that they are not allowed to talk about polar bears, climate change and/or sea ice unless they are the designated spokesman of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The director of the USFWS says it's a long standing policy, even though the memo calls it a "new requirement" for staff scientists traveling abroad. Hmmmm....perhaps this is a plan to reduce greenhouse gases by only having one person blowing hot air about the US positions on global warming and its impact on polar bears and sea ice...but I'm betting it's just one more step in the scientician-ing of America, stifling all dissent and honest conversation in the public sphere by US experts. Has there been such a blatant effort to politically shape/stifle scientific findings/discussion since...dare I say it...pre-war Germany?
