2007-05-10 8:42 AM A Report from the Hospital Room Many thanks for all of your prayers and good wishes.
Today they will perform a procedure designed to put a stint in the esophagus so that Dad can begin eating again. Nutrition is essential very quickly because the pathology report showed that the tumor is cancer and a very aggressive instance of it. They will be ready to deal with the pain issues that will almost surely be caused by the placement of this device alongside the tumor. The doctor says that the only real treatment option is chemotherapy. This will be the 4th formulation of chemo drugs. The fact that a tumor began to grow DURING the last three formulations, and that they haven't eliminated two of the other places where the cancer is present, obviously gives us pause. Still Dad has a wonderful attitude...he wants to fight and has faith in his doctors. If they are not able to place the stint today, they will procede to placing a J-tube for feeding directly into the abdomen. Nourishment is the key. Keep those prayers coming. Thank you.
