2007-10-26 10:50 AM The Big D launches stupid, homophobic campaign to keep pants up. Now, I think I've seen it all.
Like most grown ups, I think the trend of wearing pants without a belt and letting them sag down and show everyone your business--or the trashy undies that your Mom warned you not to wear in public--is a nasty habit, and truly in bad taste. But now, the geniuses running the city of Dallas have launched a campaign to get the boys to pull up their pants--BY TELLING THEM THEIR PANTS DOWN LIKE THAT MAKE THEM LOOK GAY! Sheer genius! NPR has the details here. how offensive and stupid is this campaign? Let me count (some of) the ways.... 1. Gay men have more style than this campaign suggests. NO grown up gay man that I know would be caught dead looking like such a slacker in public, and the little twinkie boys I know that MIGHT do that are only doing it to show off their Ginch-Gonch undies for which they paid $40 a pair, so I don't count those as underwear, more like a second layer of clothing. I can promise you, the teens the campaign is trying to target don't fit that profile. 2. Don't flatter yourself, Droopy Dudes. No gay man I know will want to hang with or pursue someone doing the skanky baggy pants thing, unless again we are talking about the college types with their Ginch-Gonches. (Despite mentioning them twice, I DON'T find that look attractive, if for no other reason than $40 underwear is just silly.) 3. Aren't you paying attention? Men on the down low wear suits in major metropolitan airports, not un-cinched jeans on the South side of Dallas. Now closeted homophobic public officials will start showing up prowling our cities with drooopy jeans. Eeewwww! THANKS A LOT, DALLAS! Dear Deputy Mayor Fashion Police State Promoter Dude, if you want boys to stop dressing that way, convince their GIRLFRIENDS (and by use of that term I mean female, heterosexual girlfriends) that their men look nasty, stupid, and unclassy that way. OR, get their mothers involved. Straight men don't listen to government officials' sartorial suggestions--they listen to their Moms and/or their lady friends. So in short, you homophobic moron, leave the fashion to Tommy Hilfiger and Levi's. Instead, why don't you try to do something about traffic on I-35 or the violent crime rate in your city, which is almost 3 times the national average? Consider yourself phbbbblllllttt-ed!
