Okay, Iceland is really cool. I mean nifty. Well, cool too, especially when the wind is blowing, which seems to be a lot. Anyway, you should plan on a visit if you like really cool geology, dramatic landscapes, variable weather, crystal-clear air, quiet and solitude, hiking, and Viking history. Or even just some of all that.

Within the time our plane landed and made it to the terminal, at least two other jets like it landed and got to the terminal. The airline gets all its flights in at the same time, the terminal processes everyone, then the airport closes down and all the people that work there rush off to other jobs. You gotta see it to believe it.

John Steinberg, the project leader, picked up the four of us on Flight 614, and took us to the nearby Blue Lagoon. This spa facility hosts a huge outdoor geothermal pool that supposedly has all these skin soothing qualities. Whatever. It´s certainly a good way to deal with jet lag!

Driving from there to Skagafjord took about four hours, and provided great landscape views, images of farms and fishing villages, a chance to hike up a small cinder cone, and even some monotony through some barren highlands. The clouds here are spooky. They look like they´re coming down to get you. Something about the air temperatures, I suppose, in which they form or move keeps them low.

The places we´re lodging will be crowded, but they are modern furnished houses that get rented for just this sort of adventure. Currently I expect to access the Internet after our daily meal at 7:00 pm local time, but that may vary. I need to figure out whether and how to upload images from the camera, so none for now but I hope to have them soon.
