Here are a couple of QuickTime panos for your viewing pleasure. They were shot two days ago, and originally posted then, but not they have accompanying explanations. They open in a new window. Sorry they're big files, so please be patient if you're on a slow connection.

Hof, yesterday when it was cold.

Trench 1 at Hof, from yesterday.

The first pano opens facing north, showing (in the distance) the ag college where we eat and have our computer lab and meeting room. In the foreground you can see the spoil heaps from our trenches and to the left you may be able to see the Viking longhouses, but they can be hard to make out because so little remains of them and grass covers that.

As you spin the panorama to the right you will see some of the project members taking readings with one of our machines, and then a little deteriorating turf building. Keep going and you will see a nearby farmhouse or two, then down the valley to the south, then the mountain to our west. As you return back to the north facing, you should see the road we take down to the main Skagafjörður valley where we will be spending much more time in the next few weeks.

The second panorama simply shows one of our trenches. Close up it's kind of boring because the field of view of the camera doesn't cover enough, but the long shot views show what it's like to look down the length of the trench. This pano was made as an experiment in photographing trenches. I doubt that it's of much use to anyone, but thought you might like to see it.
