We worked a relatively short day today because it's Saturday, but we did put in three trenches at Holar, each one meter wide. Two of them are 5m long and one is 10m long. The short ones contain nothing but rocks, however the long one started off with bits and pieces of modern trash, then turned into mostly multi-colored turf. Some bones, a piece of metal, some wood, and a little other trash appeared a little lower, but we did not go down all that far today.

I forgot to mention that yesterday I worked all day in a short-sleeve shirt, for the first time. The sun shone all day, and the wind never kicked up. Today, also, was a short-sleeve day, but it was overcast and drizzly all day. Amazingly, the air remained still and the temperature high, so we got a little wet and muddy, but not cold. Strange weather here.

So let's see. As we work in our large trench, we try to find layers or distinguishing lines that will tell us about what used to be there. We found some stones that appear to make a line, so they may have once been part of a wall. The soil on one side appears completely different from on the other side, so that strengthens the argument for it being a "feature" - something made by people. We have no way to date it until and unless we find some charcoal or bone wood within the stones.

For those of you following my poker game winnings, you'll need to mark down a negative for last night. I guess I'd better stick to board games and computer games. Poker just ain't friendly to me. Tomorrow's our day off, so we'll see who wants to go where in what cars and try to get out of the house for the day.
