We sit in the same seats at the same table and have the same drinks. Then we write for an hour. It's a good routine. Even the songs playing in the background are usually the same (although they haven't played "music for perverts" for a while). We're not the only people who go to the same cafe at the same time each morning and sit in the same seats. There's a woman who sits in the couches behind me and reads "classic" books. There's a business man who has a coffee and reads the paper at the table near the window behind Steph.
Only, today, things went wrong. We were there. The woman with the classics was there. But at the table behind Steph, another man was there with his laptop, working. So in comes our regular business man, turns right through the door, heading for his regular table and his regular seat. And stops. There's someone there. For a second, he pauses. If this had been a bar, there would have been a fight. But it isn't. It's Starbucks. He turns away, and heads for a different table. I've been feeling pretty good about work and writing these last few days. Steph went on a time management course on Monday, and I was inspired to give one of the ideas she got a try. I've made up a time sheet for myself for work, and I write down everything I do in an hour. It has at least doubled my productivity, possibly more. It keeps me actually doing stuff rather than wasting time. My desk has never been so clear. Of course, I'm going to have to write this down as "Internet/Journal", which won't look so good, but it will motivate me to do more afterwards. It's also helped my writing. When I was falling behind on work, I felt depressed and bored at the same time. Now I feel far more positive and so I'm writing more. I've finally got a good query package for my last novel together, and now I'm back to work on my current novel. I've plotted it out to the end, and I realise I've only got about 7,000 words to go. That's not much more than a longish short story. I could do it in a week. Maybe I will. I'm certainly going to try. Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
