A morning hill

We made our first trip to the cafe this week today, even if we got in a bit later than normal. Getting up at 6:15 after lying in until 7:15 for the last few mornings was a bit of a struggle. However, we got in and we both did a fair amount of writing. I attacked the end of the novel, and I'm right on the slope up to the climax now. Frustratingly, we had to stop so we could go to work. Nonetheless, I can't be more than 2-3,000 words from the end now, and I'll hit it in the next day or two. I know everything that happens, so it's just a matter of writing it in an exciting, interesting and convincing manner. Easy stuff.

It occurs to me that I overlooked a substantial moan yesterday. For the entertainment of all, I present it to you here.

So, I've been having trouble with Microsoft Word on my computer for quite a while. At first, every time we tried to open a document from inside Word, it crashed the computer. However, we discovered that we could open the documents through Windows Explorer, so it was more of a minor inconvenience than anything else. Then the fault decided to spread itself to opening files in Word using any method. Here I was, left without a word processor to write on. So I tried the little functions that came with Office where it lets you repair or reinstall Word. No luck.

Furious by now, I decided to uninstall Word completely and reinstall it from scratch. With a vicious thump of a key, I uninstalled it. Great satisfaction ensued. I got out the CD, put it in the drive and started to install Word again.

Only to realise that I no longer had the original CD case that Word came in, so I didn't have the security code to install the blasted thing again.

Now I no longer even have a malfunctioning version of Word on the computer. I have been reduced to using Wordpad to write on, which is okay, but a bit limited.

The worst thing about it is that I'm not even sure that Word was to blame for what was going wrong. It could easily have been Windows itself that was crappy.
