It's got to the stage where we're getting to bed late because we've been organising stuff. Yesterday we had a massive trip to the supermarket to buy stuff for the reception. We're doing the catering ourselves (well, our friends are organising the food and drink, but there's a lot of other stuff involved) so we went around buying wine glasses, serving dishes, and that kind of stuff. Then we also had to do some shopping for Steph's family who are on their way over here tomorrow, so they can have a bit of food in the apartment they're renting, and so on and so on. None of it's big-deal stuff, it just takes up the time.
We've worked out pretty much what we have to do every day between now and the wedding, and it's all managable. Saturday is going to be a bit mad, though. In between all this, I've been reading and reviewing short stories in my review journal http://www.journalscape.com/sfreviews. I should be able to put a review of the September 2004 issue of F&SF in the next day or two. I think I've probably read more short fiction in the last week than I had in the previous two or three months. The good thing about it is that I've reminded myself that I do like reading short stories. I'd almost forgotten that. I've got started on the new children's/YA novel. It's tentatively called "The Half House" at the moment, and it will be part of a series, I think. Don't ask me how many books or even where it's eventually going, but I like what I've written so far. I haven't typed it up yet, but I'm guessing I've written about 1,500 words so far. Not a great deal, but I've figured out the two POV characters and I think I have their voices clear. My favourite article of the last few days: a satirical piece by Brian Sack on the interrogation of Saddam Hussein: here. From The Independent. Also, a piece by Naomi Klein on why she is going to vote for Kerry: here. From The Guardian. I'm not totally convinced by it, but it is an interesting perspective.
