2004-10-11 12:19 PM Bush, websites and time off Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (0) I've spent most of the morning trying to work on the design of a website for work and I've come to the conclusion that art and me just don't go together. So I'm reverting back to the really simple design I had on Friday. It looks kind of boring, but what can I do? Whenever I try for something more interesting, it just looks messy. I think I'm going to get the whole thing done by a professional designer because this is not working with me doing it.
I've been spending too much time following the US presidential election. I can't help it; the whole thing has too many implications for the rest of us for me to ignore it. Bush and his coterie have been making a lot of noises about Kerry changing his positions. Now, there is something to be said for following through on a policy. But there's also something to be said for admiting you are wrong and changing direction when you realise it. Bush would drive his car off a cliff if he'd been told there was a road that way. Some might claim that he already has, and that he's just enjoying the freefall on the way down. We took the weekend off from, well, everything really. We went out to Bolton Abbey for a long walk on Saturday. Sunday, we went to see Hero in the afternoon (good movie, a little heavy on the political message, but no more so than 50% of Hollywood movies), then watched Buffy in the evening. We're into season 7, at last. Seasons 5 and 6 were brilliant, IMO. I'm not so taken with season 7. It's all these damned wannabe slayers all over the place. Problem is, they're not real characters. They're all stereotypes, and please don't get me started on the awful "English" accents. Buffy has never done well with the English accents. James Marsters got there in the end, after an embarrassing season, and Anthony Stewart Head is obviously okay, but the rest are diabolical. I guess the lesson with these wannabes is that you can't introduce a whole bunch of new characters in one or two episodes without thinking them out as real people. They disrupt the dynamic of the show in the way that characters don't when they're introduced one at a time. That's all for now. Back to the damned website.
