2005-05-22 5:25 PM Into the valley of rain Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (2) We declared yesterday to be Steph's birthday. The actual, strict anniversary of Steph's birth is actually on the 28th, but really, what is the significance of the rotation of Earth around the Sun? Anyway, Steph's going to be in America, at Wiscon, on the 28th and I'm going to be here, so it wouldn't be much of a celebration for us.
We went on a trip to Skipton, which is just on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. We went to the castle there, of course, because if there's a castle, you've just got to go... Here's some pictures: The inside courtyard View from the front The grounds of the castle It's a really cool castle. It was lived in right through the Victorian period, so it's been well maintained rather than being allowed to fall into ruin like many castles. We also, of course, had birthday cake (very chocolatey) and mattar paneer, which is Steph's favourite meal. In the late evening, when we were back, we watched Connie and Carla, which was a lot of fun. I'd been pretty certain it would be awful, but it was actually good. Today was beautiful weather, so we put our nearly-dry laundry out in the garden and went out for a nice long walk in the valley. Of course, half-way through, it poured with rain. Sigh. Actually, it's kind of fun to be caught out in the rain in the woods when it's warm. The rain only lasted for about ten minutes and we hid under trees and just got slightly wet. After moaning about the lack of short story ideas recently, I managed to come up with one today. Now I'm going to force myself to write it. That might get me back into the flow again. I'm also not too invested in it being great, so if it turns out crap at the end, I don't really care. All my recent ideas have been ones that I am convinced should be great stories, so I end up frozen part way through and so can't finish. One day this week, I might set myself the target of writing the story in a single day. Watch this space. (Well, don't, because nothing's going to happen in this space.) I think I've eaten too much chocolate cake. My stomach is protesting. Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
