2005-08-13 9:36 AM WorldCon report Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (2) So, we went to WorldCon. Way, way too much happened for me to be able to report on comprehensively, but some highlights:
I met for the first time, these wonderful people, some far too briefly: Jed Hartman Christopher Rowe Gwenda Bond Gavin Grant Kelly Link Veronica Schanoes Sharyn November Sheila Williams Jetse de Vries Andy Duncan David Moles Merrie Haskell Charlie Allery Became reacquainted with: Ben Rosenbaum Ellen Datlow Connie Willis Geoff Ryman Freda Warrington & Mike Llewellyn Martin Owton Gary Couzens Some of them for nowhere near long enough. I also met a host of other people for passing "hi"s, including: Ellen Kushner Delia Sherman Scott Westerfeld Scott Edelman Neil Williamson Roseanne Rabinowitz Andy Hatchell And many others, who will re-enter my mind when it re-enters consciousness. Always too many people and not enough time. We shared the nicest apartment in Glasgow with Justina Robson and Richard Fennell. Thanks to Justina for finding it! It was bigger than our house, and there was loads of room for the mini-party we held on the Saturday night. Okay, I know I've forgotten a large number of people, and I'll be going back to add them as I remember. Don't blame me. Worldcon is now a blur in my over-tired memory. We also went to great readings by: Ellen Kushner Ben Rosenbaum Delia Sherman Connie Willis And a few panels. My favourite panel was: Why Write for Children & Young Adults? With: Oisin McGann, Janet McNaughton, Sharyn November, Scott Westerfeld, Jane Yolen An intelligent and entertaining discussion. Thanks to everyone who took part. Another highlight was seeing people we knew or had met winning Hugos. Congratulations to Ellen Datlow (for two Hugos) and Kelly Link! Came back with the following books we didn't have when we went: Midnighters, book 1 - Scott Westerfeld The Gods and Their Machines - Oisin McGann The Harvest Tide Project - Oisin McGann Swordspoint - Ellen Kushner Through a Brazen Mirror - Delia Sherman Travel Light - Naomi Mitcheson Blood Follows - Steven Erikson We also got a copy of the new magazine, Farthing. Lots of reading to do, no time to do it. :) Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
