Dead journal

So, is Hal Duncan's Vellum the hottest new SF/F novel of the year? I've only just started reading it, but some points in its favour:

1. Lots of people are talking about it.
2. It's got a gorgeous cover. One you can fondle, run your fingers over, sniff.
3. It's getting pretty good reviews.
4. From the bit I've read, it's like Iain Banks meets Clive Barker.
5. It's getting a good push by the publisher.
6. Hal Duncan doesn't seem like the kind of guy who is going to talk down his book.

Anyone else read this book yet? Is it going to be hot or a flop?
