2007-07-15 8:14 PM Barry and the facts Read/Post Comments (4) |
As Barry Bonds approaches Hank Aaron's all-time homerun record, a lot of people, especially those who appear to be the dumbest mother fuckers on the planet, have a lot to say about it. This can be seen from looking at online postings and some of the comments people leave.
First off, there are still people who say that they hope those things about Barry and steroids aren't true. Folks, Bonds has taken steroids -- it's a friggin' fact. I'm not saying this based on his massive gain in size or his ungodly homerun numbers since turning 35. I'm saying this based on legal testimony. The evidence is incontrivertable. Bonds testified that the thought "the cream and the clear," which he admitted to using during the 2003 season, were not, in fact, steroids. But nonetheless, he admitted to using them. Ergo, he fucking used steroids. This, of course, doesn't include what he didn't admit to using. He did not abmit to using anabolics, human growth hormone, insulin and a female growth hormone used to mask steroids. However, the feds know that he did. One clue is a fucking calendar they found that lists when he was supposed to take what drugs, as well as when he as to submit urine samples. This comes from leaked grand jury testimony. It was not made up. That's why the two reporters who broke the story, Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams, were threatened with jail time for not giving up their leak source. Had they simply decided to publish fiction, they might have been offered jobs at FoxNews.com or something, but they would not have been facing time in the pokey. And who leaked that testimony? That would be Troy Ellerman, a former defense attorney for Bonds, who was sentenced to 30 months in prison for the leak last week. Yes, Bonds' own attorney leaked grand jury testimony. So no, previous arguments made by another one of Bonds' attorneys that the leak was part of a character assassination are not believable. Got that, folks? Bonds used steroids. There is no debate here. "Innocent until proven guilty" doesn't mean shit when you've admitted your guilt. Innocent until proven guilty also doesn't mean a whole lot for the other drug accusations against Bonds. As noted, in addition to overwhelming physical evidence that he used designer drugs, and that he has been implicated by those that fed his habit and taught him how to use them, the feds have a calendar that logs his drug use. "Innocent" would only apply if the same idiots who sat on O.J. Simpson's jury decide Bonds' guilt. Now, what of the arguments that steroids don't help you hit homeruns? Despite how stupid this statement looks on its face, it has been used as an argument quite often. If steroids didn't help ballplayers hit homeruns, well shit, why would homerun hitters use them? "You still have to see the ball" is an equally stupid response. Yes. Yes, you do. But now, you can hit the fuck out of it. Take a look at pre-steroids Barry (1986-1998). He was a good home run hitter and probably the best player in the game. His season high home run total was 46, which he hit in 1993 in 539 at-bats. In 1999, the year after Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire attracted quite a bit of attention with their home run swatting, Barry hit 34 home runs in 355 at-bats. Coincidentally, it was also the year he bulked up enormously and spent a good deal of time injured. When you take steroids, you can get injured easier because your muscles get too big for your joints. But I digress. Since 1999, Barry has hit 340 HRs in 3,100 ABs, or one HR per 9.1 ABs. While between the ages of 34 and 42, Bonds has hit home runs at a much greater rate that when he was younger (and steroid-free). Why? Because steroids help you hit homeruns, even when you're at an age when you should be retired. "People just don't like Barry because he's black." Or, "people don't like him because he's a dick." You hear those a lot. Well, guess what, Mark McGwire was as well-liked a white ball-player as I've ever seen, but since he clearly took steroids (as evidenced by his whiny Congressional testimony), he was kept out of the Hall of Fame this year. Suck it. So cheer or boo Bonds and recognize or don't recognize his record if you like. But for god sakes, do not argue that a) we don't know if Bonds took steroids, or b) that steroids don't help you hit home runs. Prick.
