The 3am feeding last night wasn't too bad. Yeah, he made me get up and change his diaper, but after that, he latched on and nursed and we both went back to sleep.

The 5:45am feeding looked like it would be similar -- but no. I changed him, I tried cleaning out his little nose because it sounded a bit stuffy (he hates the snot sucker -- I'm sorry: the nasal aspirator), but he still wasn't happy. By "wasn't happy," I mean he was squirming and kicking and going "Waa! Waa! Waa! Waa!" and trying to scrape my nipple off by sucking as hard as he could while pulling away from me.

This was not fun. Maybe I'd just gotten too spoiled because nursing has been going so much better lately (it's been well over a month since I've blistered, and the fenugreek seems to be doing its thing!)

Anyway, after about an hour of this, I gave up and asked Shawn to give him a bottle. Shawn managed to get a couple of burps out of him, then Hunter downed about three ounces of combined breast milk and formula before spitting up what appeared to be most of it all over Shawn. I think we all managed to get back to sleep a little before 8 in the morning. I am so grateful to have a very understanding boss.

So I got up an hour or so later, got ready for work, and nursed Hunter to top him off before I headed out. He seemed pretty happy. Then I realized that the reason he was so happy was because he'd just peed all over me.

Fortunately, my sense of humor had reasserted itself by this time, so I took him back to the bedroom and asked Shawn to change his diaper while I changed my pants, blouse and bra. Then, just as I was about to walk out the door, Hunter decided he was still hungry.

I'm hoping to get the hang of this someday. I don't know how regular working moms do it.

To balance things, I thought I share some of the reasons why I'm willing to be abused at ungodly hours of the morning:
