I thought that the Republicans were supposed to be the fiscally responsible party.
From the linked story: The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday prepared to raise the nation's debt ceiling by $800 billion, taking the new limit to $8.184 trillion. [...] Republicans say the fiscal shortfall is due to the 2001 recession, the costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks. Um, hello? Without going into the fact that the 9/11 Commission found zero evidence that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11 (not to mention that there were apparently no huge caches of WMDs, thus deflating the urgency of invading a country, oh, and that we went about it in a half-assed manner so that it's still dragging on and on), what about that huge refund that President Bush was so pleased with himself about? Oh, but that's okay.
