Let's see, in the past 12 months, in additional to the usual quakes and floods and whatnot, we've had the tsunami in Sri Lanka, Katrina, and now the population-devastating earthquake in Kashmir.

For some reason, I keep thinking of this old Frank and Ernst comic I saw: seen from space, Saturn is squinting at Earth's surface, saying, "Nope -- they're still there. Try shaking California again."
